Great for dentists interested in 'High Speed Braces'

This is a very well-written review of many of the important aspects of orthodontics. It discusses topics that are essential for any dental professional who ventures outside what they are taught in dental school, as many myths create fear in the uninformed. The section on ortho-induced apical shortening and accelerated orthodontics are excellent and could easily be used to move a dentist to a higher level of service with confidence.

Necessary text for every orthodontist

This is a great book that provides the most recent and highest quality evidence available for most of the major orthodontic topics. Unlike some other orthodontic texts that "cherry pick" research studies that fit the opinions of the authors, EBCO uses only high level studies (systematic reviews, RCTs, Meta-analyses, etc) to discuss how the literature and evidence should guide our decision making. The authors present the material in a way that is easy to follow with summary bullet points and conclusions at the end of each chapter. If you're looking for a text that is supported by quality evidence and literature, then you need this book.

British boy with catchy name and unusual powers, check. Wild hair, check. Students at boarding school, check. Owls and funny street names, check. Mysterious shape-shifting enemies out to get the affable boy protagonist, check. Jenny Nimmo's "Children of the Red King" series (starring Charlie Bone) has so many of the same trappings as the Harry Potter series that, unfortunately, comparison is unavoidable. Rowling's books clearly trump these simpler fantasies for younger readers--but the Charlie Bone books are finding their audience in those who need a boy-wizard fix and need it now.

Charlie Bone and the Invisible Boy, the third book in the author's planned quintet, begins when the magically "endowed" Charlie and his friend Emma discover a mostly invisible, strawberry jam-loving boy named Ollie Sparks imprisoned in the attic of the Hogwartsian Bloor's Academy. Ollie's plight is part of a seemingly amorphous Larger Evil Plot involving school authorities, a blue boa, and Charlie's three horrible great aunts. Charlie Bone and his friends are eager to fight wrongdoing with their combination of special powers, but obstacles in all shapes and sizes abound. Can the children rescue Ollie, Charlie's uncle, Ollie's older brother, and the other hapless victims...or are the enemies too plentiful and powerful? Despite the likeable Charlie and a plethora of magical happenings (raining frogs, sorcerers who escape paintings, etc.), reading this 408-page fantasy feels like a bit like running a marathon where the finish line feels farther away with every step. Grade 4-7–In this third installment in the series, another semester at Bloor Academy is about to begin, and, as usual, chaos ensues. At home, Charlie's Uncle Paton disappears, then returns ill and powerless. Charlie's friend Benjamin heads off to Hong Kong, and his grandmother Maisie leaves to take care of her sick sister. At the same time, a new and sinister student named Belle arrives and quickly establishes herself as a force to be reckoned with. A new art teacher has joined the staff to find his younger brother, Ollie Sparks, turned invisible by a blue boa (snake, though there are feathers involved) controlled by the evil Ezekiel Bloor. Charlie and his friends try to come up with ways to help Ollie and Billy Raven, the poor orphan being manipulated and tormented by the Bloor clan. One of the strengths of this story (and the whole series) is the way both regular people and those who are magically endowed work toward common goals. A weakness is the lack of progress toward identifying and rescuing Charlie's father, who is barely mentioned in this outing. Still, it's a wild roller-coaster ride of a story, and will more than satisfy not only fans of this series, but those who are exhibiting symptoms of Harry Potter withdrawal.–Mara Alpert, Los Angeles Public Library

Readers will quickly sort out the personalities and settle into the story of magically talented friends--from Billy who speaks to animals to Tancred who can call down the weather--coming together to solve a mystery. I bought this book (and two others from this same seller) for my 10-year-old son based on a recommendation from his teacher, as she knows my son has really liked the Michigan Chillers and American Chillers books (oh yeah, and the Goosebumps books). I'll try to update this review once my son reads the book and comments about it (after Christmas), but as for the condition of this book (it was purchased "used" from this seller), it was virtually impossible to tell the difference between this "used" book and a new one. It is in like-new condition, so I'm very happy with the book as it exceeded my expectations on its condition. 5-stars.

Charlie Bone is a great Read.

Charlie Bone is a great read for children. My 6th grader is actually interested in reading this book. She has read about 5 of them so far. She has read them very fast as I have not really made her read these books. She wanted to read these, which is rare! The plot is similiar to Harry Potter but the lanauge is easier for the younger kids to read and the book is shorter which is good for them. You are able to find cheap used ones here on Amazon or buy at local book store becuase these books are very popular with the kids right now. Both girls and boys like Charlie Bone.

Encourage children to eat vegetables and fruits by making it fun. Provide healthy ingredients and let kids help with preparation, based on their age and skills. Kids may try foods they avoided in the past if the help make them.

Smoothie Creations: Blend far-free or low-fat yogurt or milk with fruit pieces and crushed ice. Use fresh, frozen, canned, and even overripe fruits. Try bananas, berries, peaches, and/or pineapples. If you freeze the fruit first, you can even skip the ice.

Delicious Dippers: Kids love to dip their foods. Whip up a quick dip for veggies with yogurt and seasonings such as herbs or garlic. Serve with raw vegetables like broccoli, carrots, or cauliflower. Fruit chunks go great with a yogurt and cinnamon or vanilla dip.

Caterpillar Kabobs: Assemble chunks of melon, apple, orange, and pear on skewers for a fruity kabob. For a raw veggie version, use vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, squash, sweet peppers, or tomatoes.

A "must - have" book

The first time I saw this book on the shelf of a prominent university library here in Jamaica, I just had to un-shelf it: it was eye - catching. I began reading and was impressed with the writer's style / approach in delivering information. It is so structured that it may be used at all levels.
I will be making recommendations to my supervisor for this book, along with the study guide, to be given consideration for our reference collection.

LOVED the class it was VERY INTERESTING

Had to get this book for a nutrition class, LOVED the class it was VERY INTERESTING! The book was a great addition to the class. However, I felt that there were parts in the book that dragged. It went into far more detail in parts. However I can see that if someone was going for a nutrition degree that more in depth would be what they were going for.

I have a problem with an author or "expert" on nutrition claiming that Registered Dietitians are the most complete and reliable source for science and fact based information. Is it a coincidence that Karen Drummond is an R.D. herself? Also, she lectures about getting "real" nutritional and scientific information from reliable and transparent websites that clearly identify their sponsors yet quotes from websites sponsored by, funded by and partnered with companies like Monsanto, Dupont, Kelloggs, etc.(except you wouldn't know that unless you do some digging). Is it a coincidence that this book is ridiculously expensive and co-authored by a former student from the Culinary Institute of America and happens to be the required textbook for the food science classes in the school? I'm so disappointed in the stale, regurgitated information in this book. I'd have an easier time just reading from the U.S.D.A food pyramid guidelines. There is nothing new or interesting in this book AT ALL. If you have any interest in nutrition, my guess is that you already know way more than what is discussed in this elementary school level waste of paper and money.

Don't be without this book if you own a VW.

Very easy and interesting to read, contains important things that the other repair manuals either gloss over, or leave out, or are just plain confusing about. You can start looking for something you want to fix right now, and end up reading on and on! Full of incredible helps. I advise sitting down and reading through it like any enjoyable book right up front, because you will pick up tidbits that you will need later! It will save you a lot of time later on when you stumble on something with your vehicle, but you've already read about it and it will come back to you! Great pictures, and fun drawings. Almost as fun as reading Mad Magazine as a 10 yr old, little pictures in the margins and borders are great!

Best Kept Secrect in the world of Bugs.... This book may have been for the hippies but, it is still relevent.

I had a bug in the 70's and this cook helped me repair, replace and rebuild.

Now that I got another bug how can I trust my bug to anything less?

Realistically, this book will help you rebuild your air-cooled bug. The car hasn't changed since they finished production and the book hasn't either. Complete with hand-drawn illustrations for the mechanical details for the repair/replacement to advice for buying the right bug. The language is every-day language rather than the pseudo-mechanical language one finds when reading Chilton's or Hayne's.

If you have a bug, do yourself a favor and buy this manual.

Awesome introduction, deep (and not an easy) reading

Really good overview of Asset Allocation, especially about diversification through assets, titles and metals (gold). Easy to read, filled of practical experiences and wise examples. Chapters 1 and 2 worth the payment!
And what I think to be the best feature: IT'S WRITTEN FOR INDIVIDUAL INVESTORS, not corporate ones. So the book doesn't assume you have millions of dollars. Instead, author repetitively says that you need to take care about transaction costs and taxes.
If you are a personal investor and wants to get some new knowledge about asset allocation, this book is a good starting point.
But be awarded: It's a introductory reading, but not an easy one. Content is deep and clever, and author says (and I absolutely agree) that you shouldn't read more than one chapter a day.

Simple, "No BS" advice for long term investors

Bernstein has done a nice job in debunking the most important myth of the investment field - namely, that it is possible to beat the market on a sustained basis. It is an unfortunate reality that the investment management industry - stockbrokers, mutual funds, and many investment advisors - are still able to sell their products despite the long term research that Bernstein cites, showing plainly that no one beats the market consistently in the long haul. Earlier in my investment "career" I tried several of these "experts" and was frustrated that they made more money on the investments than I did.

What Bernstein does do well is to collect the results of much academic research with his own analysis, and clearly show the
facts about investment performance. The principle findings are that each type of financial instrument - large cap stock, small cap stock, bond, etc., have characteristic historical performance; and that the most important decision investors face is their allocation of their investments across these classes. He gives simple but powerful suggestions.

Bernstein's goal is to make this information available to all, whether or not the reader understands financial math and statistics. I believe that he does a good job at this, separating the mathematical and statistical details for those who want to see them.

I would strongly recommend this to any investors who are still purchasing individual stocks or actively managed mutual funds.

Some good insights but in need of an update

I found this book useful, especially the chapter that brings everything together and gives example index funds to use. However, I'm still left wanting more, especially regarding the more complex subject of bonds. Despite the author's repeated advice to avoid recency (a tendency to weight risk and reward based on recent market conditions), there is a lot of reference to "recent" market conditions. That would be fine, but at the time I write this review the "recent" events referenced happened about 15 years ago. It would have been useful if this book had been updated to reflect the events of 2008. No doubt the theory discussed still holds, but an exploration of how it would have affected portfolios over this period would have made the text more relevant to recent readers.

Still, I would recommend this book as an introductory text to managing risk and reward. For readers wanting to take it to the next level, and are prepared to tackle the next level of math that this requires, then I would suggest taking a look at "Investment Theory & Risk Management" by Steven Peterson (Wiley Finance).
