Very helpful guide

This book has been very helpful for planning my trip! I especially like the tips on etiquette. I always like seeing how other people rate their favorite places along with an explanation so I can decide if those are things that interest me. The descriptions are very detailed and offer lots of good information. The organization of the book throws me off a little, I feel like it jumps around quite a bit in the beginning before it gets to the chapters on each area, but overall it has been an excellent resource.
I appreciate the information on the 2015 earthquake damage. Even though the reconstruction is an ongoing process and hard to describe accurately in print, the suggestions that we check the status of certain places before we plan a trip there are very helpful.

Wonderful Childrens' Book

My niece is a teacher in Arkansas. Her 1st grade class is sorely lacking in enjoyable books for afternoon reading. I purchased every 'Tacky' title available on Amazon and sent them down to her. I figured penguins in Arkansas would be a novelty for the kids, and they LOVED it!! I made sure that the Tacky's Christmas book arrived just before Christmas break!

The 1st graders love Tacky and his crazy adventures; he's always faced w a perplexing problem, but seems to make the right (sometimes tough) choice to solve it. Good lessons for children!

This is a wonderfully, funny book with a good message. Tacky is a delightful character, who is a little different like all of us, but is the best friend a "bird" could ever ask for. I teach first grade and my kids love Tacky. I would recommend this, and all of the Tacky books, to anyone.

Best to read the Other Books First.

Dirk volunteers to take information to a different Ward. He has information that will help the resistance. He also wants to offer his own help. He meets Leon and finds himself attracted. Leon, though, has always been alone and afraid to trust, but his attraction cannot be denied. Then more trouble comes to call and they may not have any time to explore their attraction.
This one is that needs to be read in some order. It is short and I had a hard time getting into it. I would advise that you read the other books first.

Pretty foolish of me to buy used product like this

Product arrived promptly, and even had a code.

But all it did was load an image of the text cover and attempt to dowmload spyware onto my system. Thank goodness my antivirus caught it.

Pretty foolish of me to buy used product like this. But at the price, I thought it worth a shot, as I think PH produces excellent science materials. Would like to chance buying a "new" copy, but now don't even trust those, as shrink-wrap is so readily accessible :-(

So now it's off to open a Castle Learning account and to search YT for chem videos. Aaah, the life of a student (or a student's mom) is never easy.... :-(

ETA: Must acknowledge that the booksellers from which I made the purchase are now trying to locate a functional set for me... Fingers crossed. Impressed by their efforts to help!!

I am an immigrant from Latin America, who came to this country to teach and was never exposed to the conditions Reyna grew up in; however I share the same values in regard to family and commitment to family . My reasons for coming to the USA were completely different and was never undocumented...
I could not put the book down (well, my iPad with the Kindle App) after I started reading it!

This book changed everything: the way I see my mother and her struggles, the way being left along can affect a young person, and overall the aspect of overcoming a struggle. Reyna Grande is extremely vivd and gives specific detail as to her life in this book. Every single chapter I read felt like I was there; I was in the same spot as her (which at some points I have been). It's given me the chance to truly open my eyes, because unlike her, I have the title of American on my name, and that title gives me so much privilege. I can go on and on as to why evert single school in California should read this. congress men/women should read this to understand what immigrants really go through. This book has also inspired me to keep on reading more and more, as well as continue my higher education.

reading this book was like looking into her soul

I live in New Mexico. i seen the flight of Mexican immigrants for years. reading this book was like looking into her soul. I felt a sadness just knowing the life she had to endure and how she was put down at a young age simply because her parents were in the states. it was sad,and she and her siblings were strong and stood by each other with courage and conviction, I highly recommend this to all. it's an amazingly true and honest memoir. I truly believe we as a nation are missing out on an opportunity to legally bring these immigrants to the states to work and earn an honest living. Way to go Reyna your book was Awesome. I can't wait to hear you speak and I hope to meet you at San Juan college on the 29th of September.

Best Book for Written information on ALL Aspects of Dying

I see other reviewers have given 4 stars for the lack of color photos. I can understand that but feel that the information in this one book is so complete and well done that it can only get 5 stars from me. Being new to dying I have been collecting and reading everything available to me on the subject. This is the first out of about 20 books so far that I sat down and read for hours feeling I was getting the complete picture from how your pots and pans can act as mordants to a well done selection of plant information, collecting and best uses of all parts. Color photographs would be lovely but there is a vast technical side to dying and I for one am very appreciative of a book that is so detailed on the subject and will become my go to book for information. Worth every penny!!

Loads and loads of information -all in print. The only pictures were on the cover. Information is technical and makes use of the nasties - tin, chrome and copper. It should have been named "Science of the Dyer." If you want to identify anything then you will need more books as this one refers one only to other sources for identification. Good reference book for the technical aspect of dyeing. Dyeing is all about color and this book misses out on that aspect.

This is just more silly South African Brit fun with our hero Allan Quartermain. After a while, all these stories sort of run together, but they're still fun to read. Plus, they're free on the Kindle, so that's always nice.

University of Michigan political science professor Lieberthal here presents a devastating critique of Mao's rule and its disastrous legacy. In the Maoist movement's peasant-based, military path to power, he perceives the roots of many characteristics of post-1949 China--for example, the close interlocking of party and army, repeated attacks on intellectuals, and mass political campaigns. Lieberthal credits Deng Xiaoping of the late 1970s and early '80s as an innovative reformer, an improvisational genius who effected a conscious reduction in the government's control of social and economic activity. This engrossing text also provides an amazingly detailed blueprint of modern China's power elite, their propaganda and coercive systems. Lieberthal, an adviser to the State Department and the World Bank, details the clash of China's new generation of technocrats and its stagnant gerontocracy as he discusses such issues as political succession, managing the economy and limiting environmental damage. China, which now has the world's largest armed forces, will remain authoritarian in the foreseeable future, he believes, even as it makes enormous economic advances.

The long history of periodic political turmoil has revealed some fundamental and inherent weaknesses of the Chinese political system. Lieberthal, an experienced China scholar, provides a systematic approach toward an understanding of the complex governing organizations of China from its imperial past, through the 20th-century revolutions, both Nationalist and Communist, until the current regime. Kenneth Lieberthal is Distinguished Fellow and Director for China at the William Davidson Institute, University of Michigan. He has extensive experience in China and has been a senior advisor on China affairs on the National Security Council. Professor Lieberthal is the author of many books on Chinese politics and a long-time teacher of the Chinese politics course at Michigan.

Great First Step to Chinese Politics

This is an excellent book if someone is looking for an introduction to chinese politics, history and its political economy. It is comprehensive and easy to grasp, and one of the few books of its kind that I actually found difficult to put down. It is not, however, the best book to look to for an in-depth discussion of specific topics. You should look elsewhere - you could start with Lieberthal's bibliography - if your intrests lie within a narrow subject.

Makes things clear

This is a very good book on how China actually works. For those of us who did not know a thing about this country it really sums it up nicley. This book tells how Mao and Deng pushed China to make it better. It goes in depth on how those two pushed the cadres into early retirment to bring in younger workers who new about the mordern technology and who were also more highly educated. I also really enjoyed how the author made clear how China is and can affect the future of the U.S and the entire world.

Lieberthal strikes a good balance between detailed history and scholarly analysis. He doesn't just overload you with the details and leave it up to you to think about what it all means. Great book for the budding China scholar.
